Tonight, I choosed the “I am not sleepy and I will not go to bed” book.  It is my favourite story about Charlie and Lola. I like it because I am Lola and Jack is Charlie.  Lola likes to stay up late and I do too.  I think I will keep getting out of bed even though Daddy tells me that he is watching the cricket. It is still sunny in my bedroom and I can see all my toys when I am in bed.

The children were first introduced to Charlie and Lola, not on the television, but on the Cbeebies website. This year they received three of the Charlie and Lola series as a present and all the stories are popular. As brother and sister, Charlie and Lola live their lives like many young siblings, with frustration and love in equal portions.  Both our children indentify closely with the pair and enjoy Lola’s silliness and Charlie’s weary responsibility for his little sister. Nice pictures and funny, quirky words make the book fun to read (which is just as well, really) although I wish that art directors would not insist on typesetting sentences round in a spiral sometimes.

As well as “I am not sleepy and I will not go to bed”, we have: “I will not ever never eat a tomato” and ” I am too absolutely small for school”.  Other reviewers seem to think that these three Charlie and Lola books by Lauren Child are the best ones to have.
