Jack Says:

Tonight I asked for the book about the little red hen who works very hard to grow some wheat to make a loaf of bread. The other animals said they were too busy to help so she did not share her sandwiches with them. My favourite bit of the book was the windmill.

Daddy Says:

This is a book that the children received as part of their Bookstart pack. It is a version of the folk tale about the hard working hen and the other lazy animals who end up with no share of her delicious bread. The folksy illustrations are an interesting change and the story ticks along, with few surprises. I think that Megan was worried the lazy animals were sad when they did not get to share the bread and did not really understand the morality of the tale. She would share her bread with anyone.
