This is a book about knights who live in a castle and look after everyone. The knights fight with swords and ride on horses and when they have finished,they all get to have a big tea with roasted peacock and fishes. There was peacocks at nursery but we never eated them. The knights in this book are a bit like superheroes and my favourite super hero is Tommy Zoom. Today I had my haircut like him.

Daddy Says:

This book, about life in a castle, is a history styled book for pre-school children. The tale of knights and quests, while fictional, are shown as happening a long time ago, before the children were born. This is one of the first books to have given the children a context to some of the ruined castles we have visited in our travels. The pictures are bright and have funny details while the words are in simple language, that the give the children the details of the knight’s life in the king’s castle. After a few reads, the children seem to grasp the fact that life was different a long time ago. This book is worth a look, particularly for little boys who loves heroes and bravery, even though the peacock on a plate took some explaining!
